ABOUT HER
Hello, lovely to meet you! My name is Elyse, she/her I was born and raised in RI and have been lucky to have spent some wonderful years living in different areas throughout the US. My love of all things food; how to grows, how it tastes, how to cook it, what to pair it with- all started at a young age and kept expanding.
I learned of Ayurveda in response to being diagnosed with Crohn's disease and was instantly drawn to the ancient holistic science of treating the root cause. The way Ayurveda uses the characteristics and qualities of food as medicine was a game-changer in treating my Crohn's symptoms. I became an Ayurvedic Health Counselor in 2014; having always been drawn to maternal care, Ayurveda was the perfect blend in becoming a full-spectrum doula in 2016.
For almost a decade, I have had the complete honor for caring for women/folks from preconception through postpartum. Providing grounding and nourishing care for families with newborns is a dream "job" that I am incredibly grateful for. As a full-spectrum perinatal doula, I support all people and families. My care is always a safe place for the LGTBQIA community and all religious beliefs. I believe all families should have access to doula care. In 2021, myself and two other perinatal doulas founded RI Birth Worker Cooperative in response to RI's Doula Reimbursement Act.
I met my hunky hubby on Bumble in 2016. On our first date, we realized we had met before in 2011 during a white water rafting trip in Maine where I had been a guide. I love our love story. He runs his family's flower shop so when I am not supporting families, I get to deliver flowers arrangements!
The Founder's Note
"If you're navigating postpartum or perimenopause and just want to feel genuinely taken care of, Elyse is your person. She has the most calming, grounding energy and after meeting her, it makes perfect sense that her business is called *held*. She brings postpartum care right to your home, from nourishing meals and Ayurvedic bodywork to belly binding and simply having someone in your corner through it all. What I especially love is that her approach to food as medicine comes from her own lived experience. She just gets it."
